A five-bedroom house in Risca could be converted into a HMO.
Plans submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council show applicant Jaman Hussain could accommodate “up to ten” people at 75 St Mary Street, also known as Braemore.
HMOs (houses in multiple occupation) are typically shared properties in which single, unrelated adults have their own bedrooms but share other communal areas such as living rooms, kitchens or bathrooms.
In this case, however, the proposal is to create a seven-bedroom HMO for up to ten future residents.
Documents show a ground-floor sitting room, reception room and study would each be converted into a bedroom if the plans are approved.
On the first floor, one of the existing five bedrooms would be repurposed as a lounge.
According to a design statement, “the applicant’s vision is to create a high-quality, well-managed, and sustainable HMO that will provide much-needed affordable rental accommodation for single individuals, couples and professionals in the area”.
It adds there is a “growing demand for affordable rental accommodation in Risca”.
The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 25/0444/FULL.
