A former bank building in Blackwood could be turned into ten “high-quality” flats.

Barclays closed its High Street branch in 2024, although staff have gone on to provide some services at the town’s Libanus Lifestyle.

Plans submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council show the “prominent” premises at 85 High Street could now be converted for residential use.

The application by BlueSky Property Developments Ltd “maximises the potential of this centrally located building, providing ten high-quality residential flats in place of outdated commercial spaces”, according to a design statement.

The proposed redevelopment also “responds to local housing demand, enhances the vitality of the High Street, and introduces limited but valuable private parking”, the statement by Dell Designs Ltd adds.

Other documents show the proposed flats would be spread out over the five-storey building.

The ground- and first floors would each contain three flats, and the second floor would house two flats.

There would also be a flat added on the attic level and on the lower ground floor.

Plans for the site were first submitted in March, with supporting information continuing to be provided to the council in July.

A decision on planning permission is yet to be made, and the proposals can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 25/0159/COU.
