Martyn with his awards

A Gilfach barber has once again been recognised among the best in the UK after winning Barber/Gentlemen’s Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hair and Beauty Awards 2025.

Martyn Hone, founder of MH Barbering, took the gold award at the national competition, which celebrates excellence across the hair and beauty industry. It follows his 2023 win in the same category, when he beat 11 other finalists from across the UK.

The awards are regarded as one of the most prestigious in the sector, recognising those who make a difference in their field.

Martyn has been involved in hairdressing for around 40 years, starting out in his auntie’s salon in Bargoed before working in Cardiff, Newport, Caerphilly, and London. He opened MH Barbering in Gilfach around seven years ago, building a loyal customer base in the community.

As well as his technical skills, Martyn has also been recognised for his community spirit, including giving out presents to children at Christmas and Halloween.

Martyn has previously been named Best of Welsh Barber of the Year and Businessman of the Year.

MH Barbering is based at 13 Gwerthoner Place, Gilfach, Bargoed.
