A 25-year-old man has been arrested following a string of drug raids in Rhymney on Thursday morning.

More than 20 police officers were involved as three properties in the area were raided on August 21, as part of an investigation into the supply of class A drugs.

Cocaine, cannabis, two off-road bikes, two cars, mobile phones, a laptop, and a “large quantity” of cash were seized by police during the raids.

The man, from the Rhymney area, was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, as well as using or possessing criminal property.

He remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Lysha Thompson, Gwent Police’s neighbourhood inspector for Rhymney, said: “This morning’s warrants are part of our ongoing Respect Rhymney operation, which was launched in July last year.

“We’ve successfully removed further drugs from the streets this morning, seized two off-road bikes, while officers will be interviewing the suspect later today.”

PC Thompson continued: “I want to reassure all residents of Rhymney that we’re working tirelessly to disrupt those involved in the sale and supply of illegal drugs.

“We want to send a clear message to those involved in organised crime that you are not welcome in Rhymney and we’re determined to make this area a hostile environment for you.”

Gwent PCC Jane Mudd: Respect Rhymney project will ‘restore pride in the community’

She explained how, as part of the Respect Rhymney scheme, 21 drug raids have been carried out in Rhymney in total, while 13 people have been arrested. Two people have been convicted for drug offences and sentenced to a combined total of seven years in prison.

PC Thompson added: “We will continue to use a range of tactics, including new technology and warrants, to protect our communities from harm and the damaging effects of associated crime, and collect intelligence to inform operations like this morning.

“Support and information from local residents can make all the difference as we work to address your concerns, so please continue to report your concerns to us.”
