A country music singer from Abertridwr has seen her breakout single put forward for Grammy consideration.
Caitlin Mae, 23, is in the running with her track House Sitting, which has already picked up a string of awards in the United States. They include the Gold Award for Female Single of the Year at the International Singer Songwriter Awards in Atlanta, Best Modern Country Song at the World Songwriting Awards, and Song of the Month at Songwriter Universe in Los Angeles.
The recognition marks the latest milestone in a career that has already seen Caitlin win international honours. In 2022, she picked up EP of the Year at the Josie Music Awards in Nashville for her release Perspective. She has also previously won Female Vocalist of the Year at the International Singer Songwriter Association Awards, as well as International Music Video of the Year for her song Take my Demons.
Caitlin relocated to the United States to further her career, basing herself in Nashville, Tennessee – the heart of country music – where she has been recording, performing and building industry contacts.
Being under Grammy consideration means House Sitting has been accepted onto the official ballot for members of the Recording Academy to vote on. It is not the same as a nomination, but indicates the track has cleared the first stage of the process.
Caitlin began performing as a solo singer at the age of 13 after a childhood spent in musical theatre. Inspired by country radio while spending time at her family’s holiday home in Florida, she has since dedicated herself to building a career in the genre.
In 2019 she performed on stage with her idol Carrie Underwood at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff – an experience she has described as a dream come true. The following year, when Covid restrictions curtailed live music, she switched to weekly online performances, growing her fanbase around the world.
Speaking about the latest recognition, Caitlin said: “I’m incredibly grateful for the recognition House Sitting has received. Being considered for a Grammy is a dream come true, and I can’t wait to share my new music and connect with fans on the road.”
Caitlin’s new single is due out in October, and she will also embark on a nationwide US tour.
