Primary school pupils were joined by a former Team GB Olympian to open Nelson’s new Aldi supermarket.
Llanfabon Infants pupils cut the ribbon at the supermarket’s opening ceremony on Thursday September 18 alongside Sam Cross, who won silver for Team GB in rugby sevens at Rio 2016.
The store has been built on the site of the former Co-op store off Mafon Road, and currently employs 28 people.

Store Manager, Ryan Morgan, said: “It’s been a wonderful morning here at the opening of Aldi Nelson. It was lovely to welcome our new customers into store, and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks.
“I’m also thrilled that we’ve been able to support Llanfabon Infants School through our partnership with Team GB.”
Sam Cross, a former Wales rugby union international and sevens star, said: “It was great to speak with the children at Llanfabon Infants School about the importance of eating healthily and how it can be fun to plan and prepare meals as a family.
“Hopefully I’ve also managed to inspire the pupils to keep active and try different sports.”
