Up to 17 homes could be built as part of a redevelopment in Risca, according to new proposals.

The trustees of the Risca UPVC Benefits Scheme have applied for planning permission to build the new homes on either side of Rifleman Street, at the junction with St Mary’s Street.

The site, comprising two parts, is currently a mixture of residential, storage and commercial land.

The proposed redevelopment would be “high-quality” and would “provide house types which meet local housing need” in an area of high demand, agents at Asbri Planning said in a design statement.

The homes would consist of “14 one-bedroom and three two-bedroom affordable flats”, as well as parking and landscaping.

On the southeastern side of Rifleman Street, a proposed larger three-storey building “conforms with the surrounding area” and serves as a “contemporary urban addition” to the neighbourhood, the agents claimed.

The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 25/0629/FULL.
