A Trethomas-based charity has won a national award for its fundraising efforts, just two years after its very existence was threatened.

The Parish Trust, which was formed in 2019, stepped up to help its community during the Covid-19 pandemic – and its support remained as the cost-of-living crisis followed.

However, in late 2023, it became locked in a battle with the Church in Wales over the continued use of its base at St Thomas’ Church.

However, thanks to the tireless work of the people behind the charity, a brighter future was born out of the uncertainty.

In August, following a big renovation project, The Parish Trust officially opened its new base at the former Bryn Hall in Trethomas – a building which had previously stood empty and run-down.

The renovation, which created what is now known as the Trethomas Life Centre (TLC), was made possible thanks to the charity’s ambitious fundraising efforts.

These efforts were recognised at the Welsh Charity Awards 2025, where The Parish Trust won the Fundraiser of the Year award.

The awards, hosted by Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), were held at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Thursday October 16.

Attending the awards was The Parish Trust’s chief executive and founder, Reverend Dean Roberts, alongside trustees Rose Llewellyn and Liz Blacker.

Rev Roberts said: “This award is the icing on the cake after months of tireless work, countless acts of generosity, and the belief that our community deserves a centre of its own.

“The building and opening of the TLC is a sign of what can happen when people pull together.”

He continued: “We are deeply grateful to WCVA, the judging panel, and all those who continue to support The Parish Trust as we seek to serve our communities to bring life in all its fullness.”
