Church View Care Home, Caerphilly

Three staff members have been sacked from a Caerphilly care home following an investigation into concerns about the care of a resident.

Church View Care Home, on St Martin’s Road, which is owned by HC-One, had previously confirmed in September that a “small number” of colleagues had been suspended after another member of staff raised concerns.

At the time, the company said it had carried out a “thorough investigation” and notified the relevant authorities, with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) confirming it was aware of the concerns and that the home was working with local safeguarding teams.

In a new statement, HC-One has confirmed that three employees have now been dismissed.

A spokesperson said: “We take any concerns raised about the care in our home very seriously. We conducted a thorough investigation into the concerns raised about resident care back in the spring and following a full disciplinary process we have taken the decision to dismiss the three colleagues involved.

“New leadership has been established in the home with additional support in place from our senior regional leadership team, who together are investigating subsequent concerns raised by relatives and will be taking swift action to address these.

“We understand that this has been a difficult period and we want to thank all our residents and relatives for their continued support, patience and cooperation as we bring positive change to the home.”

The concerns were first raised internally earlier this year, and CIW previously told Caerphilly Observer it had taken part in safeguarding meetings led by Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The regulator had also said Church View was rated “Good” in all four inspection areas following a visit in May 2025, but confirmed it had been made aware of a specific incident by a member of staff.

CIW said at the time that it had received assurances that “robust safeguarding processes” were in place and that there were “no concerns regarding the safety and wellbeing of residents”.

Meanwhile, WalesOnline has reported that families of some of the home’s residents have separately written to CIW expressing concerns over the care of their loved ones, including unexplained bruising, falls and a lack of dignity and personal care.

CIW has confirmed it is aware of the letter and is monitoring the home to ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has also said it is working closely with HC-One to support improvements at the home.
