The Caerphilly Miners Centre for the Community

A free community conference exploring how technology and local innovation can support the fight against climate change, food and fuel poverty is being held in Caerphilly this week.

The Caerphilly Community Conference: Technology and Climate Change will be held at Caerphilly Miners Centre on Thursday, November 6, running from 9am to 5pm.

Organisers say the event will bring together residents, businesses and community groups to share practical ideas and solutions that can make a difference locally.

The day, made possible by grant funding from the National Lottery, will include talks, workshops and information stalls covering topics such as energy efficiency, climate resilience, gardening and food sustainability, and tools to support households and small enterprises.

A free buffet lunch will be provided for attendees who pre-book through Eventbrite.

Full programme

The morning session features presentations from:

  • Derek Jones, Gwent Green Grid – on community-led nature initiatives
  • Rachel England, climate and sustainability communicator – on how climate change impacts daily life
  • Caerphilly Miners Gardening Group – case study on local growing projects
  • Paul Jennings, Swansea Environment Centre – on building climate resilience
  • Simon Beecham, Local Energy Advice Partnership – on fuel resilience and support available to households

After lunch, Heather Richardson from Caerphilly County Borough Council will discuss cutting carbon while managing rising living costs, followed by a session from seed expert Adam Alexander, known as the “Seed Detective”.

The afternoon will also include practical workshops led by Salvaged Creations Wales and Gwent Green Grid, with community stalls from speakers and local organisations.

Who should attend?

The event is open to residents, community groups, businesses and industry professionals interested in sustainability, energy saving, food growing and grassroots innovation.
