Detailed plans for 14 new apartments have been approved for the site of a former Pontllanfraith pub.

The homes will be joined by a new shop on land formerly occupied by the Crown Inn, which was demolished in 2021.

Full planning permission for the shop was granted previously, and at a meeting on Wednesday November 12, Caerphilly Council’s planning committee was asked to give consent to the final plans for the flats.

They will be located in a new three-storey building finished in brick and render, accompanied by one parking space for each new home.

Plans to redevelop the site of the former Crown Pub are in the pre-application stage
How the area could look after redevelopment

Case officer Helen Winsall told the committee planners did not consider the apartment block would be “overly dominant”, and said the design “complements the approved retail building”.

The application did not draw any objections during a public consultation period.

Members of the committee voted unanimously to approve the application.
