Christmas events in Caerphilly and Blackwood drew more than 5,000 visitors to Caerphilly County Borough last month.

Caerphilly town hosted its Christmas lights switch-on on Friday November 21, alongside a mini fair and the River of Light Lantern Parade.

Local schools provided entertainment throughout the day as 3,000 visitors headed into the town centre.

The following day, Blackwood once again hosted its annual Christmas Market, which saw more than 2,500 people visit the High Street to get stuck into the festivities, despite the wet weather.

The market had a large selection of food, drink, craft and useful information stalls, as well as a variety children’s activities such as birds of prey, funfair rides, free craft workshops and street theatre characters.

Caerphilly County Borough Council, which organises the events with funding from the respective town councils in Caerphilly and Blackwood, said a “key objective” of events is to drive footfall into the areas to boost local businesses.

Across 2025, three major events in Blackwood – the Spring Fair, Beach Party, and Christmas Market – have brought a combined 14,000 visitors to the tow centre.

Blackwood will next host a Welsh-themed celebration on Saturday February 28, ahead of St David’s Day.
