Person in hospital following railway incident in Nelson

British Transport Police confirmed a person has been taken to hospital

A person is in a critical condition in hospital following an incident on the railway line in Nelson, British Transport Police (BTP) has confirmed.

A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the railway line at 9.34am on December 12 to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, and a person has been taken to a nearby hospital where they remain in a critical condition.”

The spokesperson continued: “A police cordon has been set up in the area and urgent enquiries are ongoing to establish what has happened.

“Witnesses to the incident, or anyone with relevant information, are urged to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 152 of December 12.”

Shingrig Road was closed between Nelson and Trelewis following the incident.
