A new volunteering initiative, aimed at protecting and improving the River Rhymney, is underway.
Organised by Groundwork Wales, the regular clean-up events are running on Wednesday afternoons from 1pm to 4pm.
It started near Coed y Brain school in Llanbradach on Wednesday March 18, and returns to the village on March 25, when the clean-up moves over to Lon yr Afon.
The following week, on April 1, the clean-up is being held on Beatty Street, Tir y Berth, followed by the Bargoed Woodland Park car park in Fleur de Lis on April 8.
The final session is being held just off Picton Street, Pontlottyn, two weeks later on Wednesday April 22.
The sessions will focus on clearing litter from sections of the river, helping to improve the local environment and protect wildlife habitats across the area.
Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to take part, with no previous experience required. All equipment will be provided, along with hot drinks during each session.
Groundwork Wales is encouraging people to get involved and experience the many benefits of volunteering. From meeting new people in your community to enjoying fresh air away from screens, the sessions offer a great way to stay active while making a positive impact.
Volunteers can also develop new skills and learn more about the natural environment.
Anyone interested in taking part can sign up by contacting Jack Harrison, of Groundwork Wales, at Jack.Harrison@groundwork.org.uk
The Healthy Rivers programme is funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
