Senedd election hopefuls for the Blaenau Gwent Caerffili Rhymni constituency have a week to get their nomination papers in to Caerphilly Council for the forthcoming election on May 7.

This time around the Senedd election, which will see voters go to the polls on Thursday May 7, is vastly different.

The number of Senedd Members is increasing from 60 members to 96, with fewer and larger constituencies created by pairing up Wales’ 32 Westminster seats into 16 super constituencies.

This means that the seat of Blaenau Gwent and Rhymney has been paired with Caerphilly to create the new super constituency which is known by its Welsh name.

Caerphilly Council is managing the election, with the count to be held at Caerphilly Leisure Centre on Friday May 8.

The returning officer is Richard Edmunds, the chief executive of Caerphilly Council.

Nomination papers can be obtained from the office of the returning officer, at Bargoed House, 1 St Gwladys Way, Bargoed CF81 8AB, or electronically via electoralservices@caerphilly.gov.uk

Nomination papers may be delivered to the Returning Officer at Bargoed House, 1 St Gwladys Way, Bargoed CF81 8AB between 10am and 4pm on any working day) but not later than 4pm on Thursday April 9.

In-person appointments can be made between the hours of 10.00am and 4.00pm to submit the nomination papers by phoning 01443 866586 or by e-mailing the beechd@caerphilly.gov.uk.

To stand in the election costs £500 for an individual candidate or £500 for the top party list candidate and £200 for each of the next five candidates –

This is fee is known as a “deposit”, and they can be lost if an individual or political party has received less than 5% of the total votes cast in the constituency.
