A secondary school in Caerphilly County Borough is celebrating after winning a national arts prize linked to the NSPCC’s annual Number Day fundraising event.

Newbridge School won a bespoke maths-themed wall art installation designed to show pupils how numbers and maths connect to everyday life.

The project formed part of the school’s participation in NSPCC Number Day, held this year on February 6, which combines maths learning with fundraising to support the children’s charity.

Thousands of schools across the UK take part in the event each year, receiving access to teaching resources aimed at making maths engaging and accessible for pupils.

As part of the 2026 event, schools that registered were entered into a prize draw for a wall art project worth between £3,000 and £5,000, donated by education design company Promote Your School.

Newbridge School was selected as the winner and now has a large maths-themed artwork installed in its maths corridor.

Bethan Williams, maths teacher and numeracy coordinator at the school, said pupils and staff had enjoyed taking part in Number Day while learning more about the NSPCC’s work.

“We were incredibly fortunate to be selected as winners of the Promote Your School prize,” she said.

“Promoting numeracy across other subjects and in real-life contexts has been a key focus at our school, so our design reflects this by showcasing real-world applications such as finance and sport.”

She said the wall art had already received positive feedback during its first week.

Chris Harris, director at Promote Your School, said the artwork would help students understand how maths relates to everyday life.

Funds raised through NSPCC Number Day help support services including Speak Out Stay Safe, which teaches children how to recognise abuse and seek help, and Childline, which offers confidential support to young people across the UK.
