Ffiliffest returns on Saturday June 6

Caerphilly’s annual celebration of the Welsh language and culture returns next month, with entertainment and activities for all ages.

Ffiliffest will be held at Owain Glyndwr Playing Fields, Crescent Road, between 11am and 7pm on Saturday June 6.

The free-to-enter festival will include live music, traditional Welsh folk dancing, arts and crafts workshops, and food and drink stalls – as well as the chance to buy produce from local businesses.

Meanwhile, hundreds of local school children have been preparing and practising traditional Welsh folk dancing to perform on the day.

Ffiliffest is organised each year by Menter Caerffili – a charity aiming to promote and increase the use of the Welsh language on a community level within Caerphilly County Borough.

Menter Caerffili has worked closely with Caerphilly County Borough Council, community groups and performers to plan the event – which is unique to the area.

This year, for the first time, there will be an additional event on the evening of Friday June 5, showcasing local bands, supported by Cardiff-based Welsh language band Dadleoli – with tickets available on Menter Caerffili’s website.

A number of food and drink stalls will be set up at this year’s Ffiliffest, giving local businesses and artisans the chance to showcase their products.

Kira Bissex of Menter Caerffili, said Ffiliffest welcomes “people of all ages to enjoy the Welsh language and culture in a fantastic setting”.

She explained: “This event provides opportunities for people to enjoy an amazing programme of performances, lots of activities for children, a food area and information from local organisations. We are really excited to see this event grow year by year.

“Whether you’re a fluent Welsh speaker or new to the language, Ffiliffest offers a welcoming environment to experience the richness of Welsh culture.”

The event has received funding from Caerphilly Town Council, Caerphilly County Borough Council, Welsh Government, and Arts Council for Wales.
