Fire crews are continuing to tackle a large grass fire on Rudry Common.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the area at around 3.51pm on Tuesday August 11.
In a statement, the fire service confirmed the fire is ongoing and said: “Currently crews, appliances, and specialist equipment – including a water bowser – from Rhymney, Cardiff Central, Penarth and Merthyr Tydfil are in attendance, along with aerial support and crews from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
“Residents are being advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area and to avoid the incident ground.”
It is just one of a number of wildfires the service has been dealing with over recent days – including a since-extinguished blaze in Senghenydd.
“Recent warm and dry weather has created conditions that can allow fires to spread quickly, and firefighters remain focused on protecting communities, property, infrastructure and the environment,” the service said.
“If you see flames, or believe life or property is at immediate risk, call 999.
“If you can see smoke from an incident please be assured that fire crews are likely already in attendance and there is no need to call 999.
“For residents affected by smoke, we advise you to keep windows and doors closed where possible and follow public health advice. People with existing respiratory conditions should take extra care and seek medical attention when needed.”
