Plans for a new farmstead in Penpedairheol have been lodged with Caerphilly County Borough Council.
Applicant Neil Carter has proposed demolishing a large industrial shed, at Gelligaer Court to the north of the village, and replacing it with two new houses and three “barn-like dwellings”.
Previously, the land was occupied by an isolation hospital, but much of the original site was then demolished and industrial units were later built there.
A supporting statement from the applicant’s architects, Loyn and Co, describes the plans as a “perfect opportunity… to restore the former character of the site”, with two homes created from the former hospital building there.
“There is high demand in the village for four-plus bedroom houses and it is felt that the existing hospital building could comfortably accommodate two such houses, which would be sold on the open market,” the architects explained.
The three other proposed homes off Hospital Road would be retained by the applicant’s family.
The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 26/0526/FULL.
