Caerphilly Council welcomes positive report

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:30, Thursday February 3rd, 2011.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has welcomed the publication of a report into its services by the Wales Audit Office.

In the Annual Improvement Report, the Auditor General for Wales sets out some important messages on how Caerphilly County Borough Council is planning to improve its services in the future.

The report’s main message was that “the council is building upon sound foundations and recognises the need to strengthen its plans and performance in some key areas to meet the challenge of achieving future improvements”.

Cllr Lindsay Whittle, leader of council, said: “We are continually looking at ways of improving so that residents from all sections of the community receive quality, value for money services from the council. This report reflects our ongoing efforts and highlights the good work that is being undertaken across a wide range of areas from child protection to budget management.W

Cllr Colin Hobbs, cabinet member for performance added: “We very much welcome the report, however we also acknowledge that there is more work to do, so we will not rest on our laurels. Instead we will build on this success and focus on improving our performance levels even further in the future.”

The report states that the council has “good leadership, manages its budgets well and works well with other public bodies.”

It also praises the work being done to protect children and young people in the area as well as vulnerable adults. The report then goes on to say that Caerphilly is one of the better performing councils in Wales across a range of key indicators.
