Councillors have grilled health chiefs on the development of the new Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital, near Ystrad Mynach.

Members of Caerphilly County Borough Council met a panel from the Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board and quizzed them on issues such as cleaning processes, infection controls, hospital management and professional standards.

Leader of council Lindsay Whittle said: “The entire authority is looking forward to the opening of the brand new Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr.

“This has been long awaited and I reflect back over 40 years on how the two former authority areas united in their desire for this hospital to be built.”

He added: “Looking forward, the future holds great expectations by all in the community and this hospital I am sure, will meet the communities of Caerphilly County Borough’s needs.”
