The Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Keith Towler, visited the Caerphilly Youth Forum Conference, held at the Maes Manor recently.

The Commissioner started proceedings with his opening speech and stayed all day working together with youngsters from the forum to discuss their issues and views.

More than 60 young people representing schools, youth clubs, youth projects and voluntary organisations from across Caerphilly County Borough got together to meet with the decision makers from the council.

They discussed issues that are important to them growing up in Caerphilly County Borough and had the chance to plan how they can go about addressing those issues.

This work will be carried forward over the next 12 months by the Youth Forum and will hopefully result in them creating some positive change.

The recently re-elected Youth Champion, Councillor Mike Prew, also attended the conference and delivered a speech recalling all the highs from his first year as Youth Champion, and said how proud he is to have been re-elected for a further term.

  • Any youngsters between 11 and 25 years-old interested in joining the Youth Forum can contact the Youth Forum team on 01443 863292. Or visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk/youth
