Refurbishment at New Tredegar Leisure Centre

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Friday November 6th, 2009.

New Tredegar Leisure Centre has closed for six months while it is refurbished to bring it up to scratch.

Funding for the £350,000 project has been found through the Welsh Assembly Government’s Fit For Purpose Grant, The Heads of the Valleys Sustainable Regeneration Fund and Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Disability Equality Group.

The first floor of the centre will become a dedicated youth and community area, while the ground floor will provide a modern fitness suite and improved changing rooms.

While the centre is closed for six months, alternative facilities can be found at Cefn Fforest, Heolddu and Rhymney Leisure Centre.

Councillor Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education and leisure, said: “This new and exciting development follows in the footsteps of the recent introduction of a similar joint-use facility at Aberbargoed.

“The Hangar Youth and Community Centre is proving to be extremely successful and is being well used by the local community and I am confident that the facility at New Tredegar will be as well received.”

The new community, youth and leisure centre is due to re-open to the public in March 2010.

For more information about the project, please contact leisure centre manager Jeff Reynolds on 01443 830567.
