Fleur-de-Lys History Society publishes second book

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Tuesday November 10th, 2009.

Villagers have launched a second volume of a popular local history book.

Produced by the Fleur-de-Lys History Society, the book, called ‘Fleur-de-Lys – The Stories of Our Villages’, shares the stories and memories of Fleur-de-Lys, Glan-y-nant, Pengam and Tir-y-berth.

It is the second book of its kind to be published by the Fleur-de-Lys History Society.

Islwyn MP Don Touhig attended the recent launch of the book.

He said: “This book captures aspects of life in our valley communities that is sadly overlooked by a great many historians.

“For far too long, history books have been written from the perspective of the lives of kings and queens, generals and admirals winning battles and the actions of great statesmen of the day.

“In compiling this second volume, the Fleur-de-Lys History Society has ensured that the lives and experiences of the people who have contributed to the changing landscape of the valleys over the years can come to light.

“I pay tribute to the hard work and dedication of the society. They make a tremendous contribution to our knowledge of the extraordinary people who have populated these valleys.”
