Former Blackwood GP honoured by local Labour Party

Members of Islwyn Labour Party recently came together to recognise, Dr Dipak Ray for his dedication and commitment to the party over the years.

At a meeting in Pontllanfraith, Don Touhig MP, Irene James AM joined chair Councillor Tom Williams to present Dr Ray with a Labour Party merit award for his selfless contribution to the Labour Party.

Dr Ray, who lives in Blackwood and is fondly remembered in the community for his years as the local GP, has dedicated his life to promoting equal opportunities and campaigning for improvements in the NHS.

Mr Touhig said: “I cannot think of anyone more deserving of a Labour Party merit award than Dipak. He is an inspiration to us all. He has been a passionate campaigner on many issues.

“He has been great source of support to me and I am proud to call him my friend.”

Dr Ray said: “I am honoured to receive this prestigious reward. I would like to thank everyone in Islwyn Labour Party for their friendship over the years – it has meant so much to me.”
