Islwyn MP Don Touhig has paid tribute to Marjorie Holding for all the work she has done helping others over the years in Blackwood.

Mr Touhig presented his Unsung Hero Award to Mrs Holding for her contribution to Blackwood Methodist Church and the wider community.

She is a dedicated member of the Methodist Church and regularly holds coffee mornings to help raise funds for it.

Not only that she also edits the church magazine as well as acting as a driver to many elderly ladies who have difficulty getting to church.

Every weekend she is also a dedicated volunteer in the Street Pastor programme in Blackwood and is captain of the 1st Blackwood Boys Brigade, a position she has held for 30 years.

Mr Touhig said: “I was delighted to present the award to Mrs Holding, she is well known in Blackwood for her willingness to help others.

“Mrs Holding has earned the gratitude of so many people that she has helped – she is fully deserving of the title unsung hero.”
