Risca rapist jailed for six years

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:19, Tuesday December 15th, 2009.

A rapist guilty of attacking the same woman twice has been jailed for years.

Adam Powell, 28, of Sycamore Crescent, Ty Sign, Risca, was found guilty of two rape charges by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court.

Mr Justice Davis, sentencing Powell, described him as having a “violent streak” and said: “I think it is much more pronounced than you believe. You haven’t been charged with violence, but it is significant because it puts you in a position to coerce.”

Powell was cleared of five other charges of rape.

His victim described to the court during the three day trial how she did not live but only “existed”.

Powell, who has a history of violence against others, will be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
