The rain failed to dampen the spirits of the thousands of families who flocked to Blackwood town centre on the weekend to enjoy the special two-day Summer Festival.

Children were thrilled to get the chance to meet their favourite characters such as Peppa Pig, Fireman Sam, Barney the dinosaur, Ben 10, Bob the Builder, Upsy Daisy, Hello Kitty and Mickey Mouse.

An ‘urban beach’ was created on the High Street so youngsters could play in the sand while the adults relaxed in a deck chair.

Cllr Allan Pritchard, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “It’s been an incredible weekend and it was great to see the High Street so busy. We are always trying to help our town centres and Blackwood was a hive of activity during the weekend. There was something for everyone – young and old.”
