Caerphilly County Borough Council has said clearing the backlog of waste collections, delayed by the weather, is its top priority.

Councillor Lyn Ackerman, the cabinet member for the environment and housing, said: “We know the snow has caused disruption across all services in the county borough and we understand local residents are concerned about when their rubbish and recycling will be collected.

“I want to reassure all our residents we are doing everything we can to clear the backlog.

“We currently have collection crews and vehicles out on all collection rounds. However, there are still issues with the safety in many side streets and rear lanes and our drivers have been instructed to assess the safety of each street on their respective rounds and to collect as much as possible safely in these circumstances.

“When our crews have completed their rounds, they will be going back out to missed collections from last week. We are also sending additional vehicles to assist with refuse collection backlogs but we still must ensure everyone’s safety.”
