This year’s Caerphilly Big Cheese Festival attracted record crowds, according to the council.

More than 80,000 people from across the county borough and beyond flocked to the site to soak up the sun and fun. The event kicked off on Friday afternoon when 300 local children with disabilities had the chance to enjoy the funfair for free. This was followed by the Big Cheese race and the fireworks display.

Councillor Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration, was delighted with the success of this year’s event.

He said: “I have no doubt that the Big Cheese is one of the best summer festivals in Wales and the turnout over the weekend clearly demonstrates the level of support and enthusiasm we have in our community. I’d like to congratulate all those involved in the organisation of this major festival as well as our sponsors, as this ongoing commitment allows us the Big Cheese to go from strength to strength each year.”
