National award for Caerphilly Council team

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 08:30, Friday February 11th, 2011.

A team of council workers who help vulnerable residents by arranging support has won a national award for its work.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Supporting People team was honoured with the ‘Good Commissioning Award’ at the recent Promoting Independence Awards, an event organised jointly between Cymorth Cymru and the Welsh Local Government Association.

Caerphilly Supporting People won the award for its work with people with substance misuse problems, potentially homeless youngsters, older people and those with sensory and physical disabilities.

Cllr Judith Pritchard, cabinet member for social services said: “I am delighted that the Supporting People team have been honoured with such a prestigious award.

“The services the team offer are vital in that they target the most vulnerable in our society and seek to ensure that people remain safe and healthy.

As part of the judging process, the panel noted that the Caerphilly Supporting People team ‘empowered their service users to be at the centre of each stage of the commissioning process, from initial planning right thought to the final decision’.
