Caerphilly Council’s adult social services praised

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:00, Tuesday January 26th, 2010.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has had part of its social services department praised by inspectors.

The authority was reviewed by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) which examined how it dealt with the protection of vulnerable adults across the county borough.

Inspectors ound many areas of good practice and commended the council on its strong leadership and robust working procedures.

The report states: “Caerphilly County Borough Council has worked hard to make the protection of Vulnerable Adults a strong and high quality service.”

It goes on to say that “it aspires to continuous improvement and the work examined during this inspection demonstrated that many aspects have been successful”.

Councillor Judith Pritchard, cabinet member for social services, welcomed the report.

She said: “The findings of the inspection team reflect the hard work and dedication of staff along with the extra resources that we have focused on this crucial service area.

“We need to protect this vulnerable section of our community and we will continue to look at ways of improving by strengthening our procedures and engaging in closer multi-agency working with key partners.”

Albert Heaney, Director of Social Services added: “I would like to congratulate all the staff who work in adult services on this success and hope we can continue to build on this good work in the future.”

In 2008/09, the council received more referrals to adult protection than any other county in the Gwent Police force area.
