Train drivers in Wales are to stage a 24-hour strike in an ongoing row over pay.
Members of the train drivers’ union ASLEF will take strike action on Monday February 28. The planned strike comes after the RMT called off its own action on February 4.
ASLEF has said it expects that further strike dates to be announced shortly.
The union held two separate ballots for its 513 train driver members working for the company. The first, asking if members were prepared to take part in a strike, was supported by 70%. The second, asking for views on action short of a strike, drew over 80% approval.
An ASLEF spokesperson said: “The action is in pursuit of an acceptable pay increase, which months of negotiation has failed to provide.
“The general secretary has advised the company’s human resources director of the union’s decision to take strike action because of the company’s failure to provide a satisfactory pay offer.”
The union and Arriva Trains Wales will meet on Tuesday for a round of talks.
Earlier this month the RMT union called off a planned strike to coincide with Wales’ opening Six Nations match against England.
However, the union called off the strike after Arriva Trains Wales started legal proceedings.
