Mystery still surrounds the death of a 28-year-old man whose body was found on his birthday in an Abertridwr lane.

The man, who has been named by friends on Facebook as Gareth Davies, from Senghenydd, was found dead in a lane near the Garth Estate on Thursday at 9.35pm.

According to a tribute page set up by friends, Thursday was Mr Davies’ birthday.

Post-mortem results were due back today but tests to find out how he died have proved inconclusive.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “The post mortem was unable to determine the cause of death and more tests need to be carried out. The death remains unexplained.”

Pals have paid tribute to Mr Davies on Facebook.

Clive Pike wrote: “R.I.P Gareth. You will be missed by all. My thoughts are with all your family.”
