Youngsters from Caerphilly County Borough have been strutting their stuff on the catwalk in designs created from recycled materials.

The fashion show, held recently at Markham Community House, was organised by the youngsters and Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Youth Service.

Councillor Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education and leisure, said: “It is pleasing that local young people have the opportunity to take part in activities such as this to help fill their leisure time.

“This fun, educational scheme also helps to highlight the fact that the latest fashions needn’t come at a cost to the planet – long may schemes like this continue.”

Cllr Mike Prew, Youth Champion for Caerphilly County Borough said: “This was a fantastic event and I was honoured to be invited and support the young people. Not only did the young people gain new skills and knowledge, they clearly had great fun participating in the project.”

One youngster who took part in the scheme said: “It was really good taking part in the workshops to get our designs ready for the fashion show. It was also good to learn about how there are so many uses for recycled materials.”
