Foster carers given more support

New foster carers in Caerphilly County Borough are to have more support.

Every new foster carer will now receive the support of experienced carer. The mentor will be on hand to provide support and advice, and to pass on their knowledge and experience in an informal setting.

Cllr Judith Pritchard, cabinet member for social services said: “This brand new scheme will play a huge role in the foster care recruitment programme, and will form part of the new induction programme on offer to our newly approved foster carers.

“We appreciate that the foster carer recruitment process can be quite a stressful time, and we hope that by providing this additional support, it will help new foster carers feel more reassured and help us in retaining foster carers in the longer term.”

Each new foster carer is also allocated their own link worker from Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Family Placement team.

The council is currently looking for more foster carers to help give a child a good start in life – particularly for children aged 10 and over.

Foster carers must be at least 21-years-old and full training is given
