The SCS Group, based in Tredomen, has won the Fire Protection Specialist category at the Construction News Specialists Awards.

The company, which supplies smoke control and ventilation systems for almost all types of buildings, has added to its success in the competition in 2008 and 2005.

Established in 1992 the company has installed its systems in thousands of buildings nationwide.

Recent projects include Westfield London, Europe’s biggest indoor shopping centre and Crossharbour, a major development of 900 apartments in Canary Wharf.

The award ceremony, hosted by stand-up comedian Rufus Hound, was attended by more than 600 national leaders in specialist contracting in the construction industry.

Managing director Allan Meek said: “We are delighted to have been given this award for the third time. It is a fantastic endorsement for SCS which is founded on the principles of excellent service, expertise and value for money.”

Nick Edwards, editor of Construction News magazine said: “In times like these the difference between success and just surviving can be just about getting that little bit of competitive edge.

“That’s what the Specialists Awards is all about – showing the expertise specialist contractors bring, the quality they ensure and the innovation they create. They are the beating heart of the industry through good times and bad.”
