A 21-year-old Blackwood man who savagely kicked a dog so hard that it suffered suspected brain damage has been banned from keeping animals for ten years.
Miles Simmonds, of Clos Gronw, Blackwood, was also handed a two-year community order, to include anger management sessions, when he appeared at Caerphilly Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He admitted charges of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and common assault.
The attack on the terrier cross-breed, named Sammy, happened on November 30 last year at 3pm in Cefn Fforest and was so bad that vets think she may have suffered brain damage.
A passer-by stepped in to help the dog and stopped the attack and was verbally and physically threatened by Simmonds.
Sammy, or Holly, as she was later named by carers, was taken to the Bridge Veterinary Surgery in Pontllanfraith, for treatment.
The dog suffered three broken ribs and had several teeth knocked out during the attack. It has now been rehomed.
Simmonds was also ordered to pay £85 costs and £50 compensation to the gentleman who intervened.
His solicitor said the attack was “out of character” for Simmonds.
