A Blackwood football club is stepping out into the pitch with confidence after a £500 kit donation from electricity firm Swalec.

The company’s contribution was prompted by employee Alan Lucas, who coaches the Coed Duon Dragons Football Club.

The donation has seen the Blackwood-based club buy matching kit for its newly created U10s and U11s teams.

Alan, who is part of the Swalec sales team in Newport, said: “My grandson plays for the U11s and I know how much all the boys and girls enjoy practising and competing.

“We only created the team last summer and they didn’t get a chance to play against other teams until the season began. At first we thought that they would have to play in their own gear and all look different, so everyone was thrilled when my employer stepped in to help out.

“The kids all look great in their matching kit and it has really helped to improve their confidence and make them feel like much more of a team.

“They have had a great season so far and I like to think it is mostly down to their skills but also partially due to their new Swalec gear.”

Swalec’s donation came from the company’s Into Action Scheme which supports employees who are involved in community activities or charity work.
