New play equipment installed at Cwmcarn Forest Drive

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Friday March 18th, 2011.

New children’s play equipment has been installed at Cwmcarn Forest Drive.

Forestry Commission Wales, which manages the popular Cwmcarn Forest has completed a number of improvements to the play area next to the visitor centre at the start of the drive.

A new entrance has been added to the car park, allowing easier access to the play area which has been covered with new wood chip to ensure children’s safety.

Also, trees have been cleared to create a “Wizard Walk” in the woods, with sculptures of gnomes, a giant, billy goats and a toadstool circle with a wizard.

Forest Ranger Emma Louise Felkin said: “This is part of our continuing commitment to improve our recreation facilities and put more fun and excitement into a visit to Cwmcarn.

“The existing equipment is getting a bit old but all the new facilities comply with the Disability Discrimination Act, so everyone can enjoy them in safety.”

There is a £5 charge to drive around Cwmcarn Forest Drive, which was opened in 1972.
