A team of budding young entrepreneurs from Newbridge School wowed judges with their innovative business idea at this year’s Young Enterprise Competition.

The area finals of the popular annual competition took place at Caerphilly Council’s Penallta House recently and involved schools from the Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen areas.

The winner of the ‘Best Young Enterprise Company’ was a team calling themselves Inferno from Newbridge School.

The Year 10 team set up a business selling custom made accessories that have been created using recycled pieces of old jewellery.

The winner of the ‘Best Young Enterprise Team’ was from Crownbridge School in Torfaen.

The two winners will now represent the region in the Wales awards at Cardiff City Hall in June.

Councillor Ron Davies, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, congratulated the winning teams and said: “It was fantastic to see the effort that these young people have put into making their business ideas a reality and it’s encouraging to think that these youngsters could one day be the business leaders of the future.

“I’d like to wish them luck in the Welsh finals in June and congratulate all the teams involved for their efforts.”
