A free community safety event for residents aged over 50 is to be held next week in Pengam.
The latest event in the Cheese and Crime series will be held on Tuesday April 13, from 4pm until 6.30pm, at Lewis School,in Pengam.
Sixth form pupils from the school will be performing a short play about the dangers associated with doorstep rogue traders and bogus callers.
Gwent Police, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Safety Wardens and Trading Standards will also be on hand to offer safety advice.
There will be a free cheese and wine reception on arrival, and following the play, a free hot meal of fish, chips and mushy peas, complete with tea, coffee and gateaux for dessert.
Free transport to and from the event is also available for residents.
Councillor Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for the environment said: “Two events in the Cheese and Crime series have been held to date at various locations throughout the county borough, and they have been very well received indeed.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and find out more about safety issues, and to have a chat to various organisations about any safety related concerns people may have.”
Pengam ward officer, PCSO Lesley McKean, said: “There will be lots of opportunities for residents to speak informally with the different agencies, to pick up helpful information and tips. Anyone over the age of 50 is welcome to attend, and we are looking forward to seeing them there.”
