Dream Alliance, the horse owned by a 22-strong syndicate from Cefn Fforest, had his fairytale return to the Grand National cut short after pulling up on jump 24.
The Welsh Grand National winner started the day at 40-1 to take glory at Aintree. His price fell though to 18-1 after punters decided to back the horse with the fairytale story.
Unfortunately the horse, which had a life-threatening injury inflicted upon it in the 2008 Grand National, didn’t finish the race after pulling up at Canal Turn.
Born on a disused allotment next to Blackwood rugby club and owned by a group of 22 friends from Cefn Fforest, the horse romped home to win the 60th Welsh Grand National in December last year.
Owned by members of the village’s Top Club working men’s club the horse was a 20-1 outsider for the race.
The win was a remarkable comeback for the horse after severing a tendon in his front leg in the 2008 Grand National.
The syndicate clubbed together and paid for pioneering stem cell surgery for the horse.
Since the Welsh Grand National win last year, the nine-year-old horse has been the centre of attention.
There have been reports that Hollywood wants to bring the horse’s story to the silverscreen.
