A Blackwood man tattoo artist is preparing to enter the record books and raise money for Cancer Research Wales.
Dave Fleet will be attempting to beat the world record for the longest tattoo session along with James Llewellyn, from Cardiff, but the duo are in need of witnesses to confirm the timings.
While Dave, a professional tattoo artist, carries out the 50 hour tattoo session on James, eight volunteers are required to work on a rotary system to invigilate.
The Guinness World Record attempt will begin on October 27 at the Grosvenor Casino in Cardiff Bay and is due to finish at 9.15am on October 29 when the Lord Mayor of Cardiff will be there to congratulate them.
The pair are aiming to beat the current record of 48hours 26mins set in April this year.
Dave and James chose the extraordinary challenge to support Cancer Research Wales after James’ mother and a close friend, Keith Chorlton were diagnosed with the disease.
Thankfully his mother made a full recovery but Keith sadly lost his battle with colorectal cancer metastases (mCRC) and died on March 25 this year. James is undergoing the extensive tattoo session in memory of Keith.
James said: “Keith was a man who gave his whole life to South Wales. As well as supporting Cancer Research Wales, this record attempt will also commemorate a compassionate, philanthropic and family man. Keith touched the lives of many people, including many of his employees, and almost everybody he met.
“I had known Keith my entire life and grew up with his four sons Alan, Simon, James and Lance in their original town of Chepstow. After he died we wanted to find a way of raising money, awareness and appreciation for the work that Cancer Research Wales does so that potential future medical breakthroughs can find more efficient markers to detect early signs of the disease and even work towards the discovering a long-term cure.
“However in order for the tattoo attempt to count as an official Guinness World Record we desperately need more volunteers and would urge anyone who is available between October 27 and 29 and interested in helping out to get in touch.”
