Sir Tom Jones has had a 47-year ban from a social club lifted after he was accused of stealing a chicken.
In 1963 Tommy Scott, as he was known then, and The Senators were banned from Fochriw Social Club over the disappearance of a chicken, which was first prize in a raffle.
Len Davies, brother of club chairman Jack, told the Daily Mail: “Tom was known then as Tommy Scott. He was very, very popular in the Valleys.
“There was a full house that night, I remember having to get there early to make sure I got a seat.
“It was packed and Tom was magnificent. He was introducing people to rock’n’roll who hadn’t seen stuff like that before – people who were used to choirs.
“There was going to be a raffle of the chicken to raise some money for the club at the end of the night. But people were having a few drinks and after the performance a melee broke out. My brother had bought this chicken as one of the prizes but after the fight it had gone.
“The rumour is that it was Tom Jones – but nobody really knows who took it.”
He added: “I’m sure people would love to see him now and would be happy to buy him a pint in the club.”
