Oakdale wind turbine plans to go on show

The public is to get the chance to see plans for two wind turbines in Oakdale, near Blackwood.

An exhibition on the energy development at Oakdale Business Park is being held on Wednesday April 6.

The land, which is owned by Caerphilly County Borough Council, is being investigated by renewable energy developer Partnerships for Renewables, which believes two turbines could generate enough electricity to power 2,400 homes.

The organisation hopes to submit a planning application this summer, and says it is exploring the possibility of providing cut-price power to the local area.

People who go to the exhibition can speak to the people running the project and see scale pictures of how the turbines would look.

Cllr Colin Mann, deputy leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council and cabinet member for sustainability said: “It’s good to see that this scheme is progressing as the council has an ambitious sustainable regeneration strategy in place and we are committed to the concept of ‘Living Better, Using Less’.

“Investigating wind energy is a vital part of our future energy mix and we are proud to have the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to meeting renewable energy targets and promoting sustainability.”

The exhibition is taking place at Oakdale Community Centre in Penrhiw Avenue, Oakdale, Blackwood, from 3pm to 6.30pm.
