Penmaen councillor John Evans, 67, has raised more than £14,000 for charity during his stint as the Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough.
The outgoing Mayor raised the cash throughout the past year for nominated charity Cancer Research Wales.
Cllr Evans suffered with the disease 21 years ago.
He said: “I don’t think there’s anyone in the whole of Great Britain who hasn’t been affected by cancer, either themselves or through friends and family, so it’s a very worthwhile cause.”
Cllr Evans was succeeded as Mayor by Cllr James Fussell.
