Crosskeys is to host a free family festival event on Saturday May 15.

The ‘Big Green Festival’ takes place at Waunfawr Park, which was recently awarded Green Flag Status, and boasts live music, sporting sessions, animal displays and lots of healthy activities.

Beach lovers will get the chance to build a sandcastle or just sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere at a special ‘urban beach’.

Lindsay Whittle, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to host this new event in Crosskeys and hope it will attract families from across the county borough.

“Waunfawr Park is a fantastic venue and the Big Green Festival will help showcase this popular community park – I hope to see you all there”

Sports fans will be spoiled for choice thanks to football skills with representatives from Cardiff City Football Club, rugby sessions with the Gwent Dragons and golf activities in support of Ryder Cup 2010.

A range of partner organisations are supporting the festival and will have stalls at the festival site on the day.

Eisteddfod 2010 and Menter Iaith Caerffili will be promoting Welsh language and culture, and other agencies such as Gwent Police and the Crosskeys and Pontywaun Partnership will also be involved.
