A Risca care home faced with closure could be given a last minute reprieve after councillors voted to keep it open.
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s health social care and wellbeing scrutiny committee went against the recommendation of a council report to close Ty Darran.
Instead the committee voted to keep the home open as a 15-bed residential care home with an additional 12 beds for an elderly mental infirm unit.
The new plan was suggested during a 12-week consultation period about the home’s closure and put forward at the committee meeting by Councillor Keith Reynolds.
The motion was supported by eight votes to seven and will now go forward to the council’s cabinet on May 18 for a final decision.
