Ystrad Mynach firm prosecuted for environmental offences

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Friday November 4th, 2011.

A recycling and waste firm based in Ystrad Mynach has been fined after Caerphilly County Borough Council prosecuted it for two offences under the Environmental Protection Act.

Amber Engineering Limited, which trades as Amber Services and is based on Dyffryn Business Park, was taken to court by the council after waste escaped from its control from two lorries.

The first offence was for allowing waste to escape its control on the A469 Llanbradach to Ystrad Mynach bypass. The second offence was for allowing waste to escape on the A472 Pentwynmawr bypass.

The case was heard at Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court on Friday October 21.

Amber Engineering Limited was found guilty of two offences under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The company was fined £1,000 per case, ordered to pay costs of £907.41 and a victim surcharge of £15.

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection said: “Our officers work tirelessly to ensure that those who commit environmental offences are brought to justice, and I am pleased to see the courts also have emphasised the severity of the offences in the fines it has imposed.”
